I was given a vintage clarinet by my grandmother. She asked me to research about it. We know nothing about it and the markings on it don't seem to match anything online. I hope someone here will be able to help. It's silver plated. It has the name Chauvet on it as well as a few other various numbers and markings. The keys have the number 15 stamped on them.

This is a vintage metal clarinet most likely from the 1930s or possibly a little earlier. The only other Chauvet instrument I know of is an oboe I saw awhile ago. I assume that "Chauvet" is the name of an importer and not a manufacturer. It is most likely that this is one of many mass produced metal clarinets made in France for the American market. As for the other markings the top one is a serial number and the one below that is a Bb to show that the instrument is in Bb. Some of these metal clarinets can be decent instruments assuming they were built well. The nice thing is it has all of its parts which puts the value around $80 or so. Do you have any plans to make it playable?

Well I'm not sure, it seems like it might be a little expensive to do so. It's slightly worn and the pads are in horrible shape.

They sell on eBay periodically, usually for less than $100. Search eBay completed listings for 'metal clarinet'.
You would need to pay more than its worth to make it playable.
Metal clarinets are obsolete, not in current use, except as curiosities and museum pieces. Occasionally I see one in a jazz club, or at an outdoor concert-in-a-park venue, but they are rarely used anymore.

Chauvet was a Parisian manufacturer - two brothers actually. Known for high quality Oboes and English Horns. Ceased production in the mid-1970s and their trade mark expired in 1996 or thereabouts. Not a stencil brand. You might find more at the oboe board of woodwind.org

There are some really nice metal clarinets like this Selmer Paris silver clarinet with a tunable barrel. I pull it out to surprise people and get shocked how many people ask me if it is a soprano sax.

99% of metal clarinets are dreck, not worth anything. The 1% of very cool and playable instruments include the Leblanc Paperclip contra clarinets (alto and bass). This is my favorite reference. http://www.silver-clarinet.com/

It's definitely a Cundy-Bettoney manufacture. It has the C-B patent and resembles the Columbia model (although it is a "stencil"). C-B made it for Chauvet who put their mark and serial number on it but the patent number is definitely a C-B, as is the case.
If the lower tone hole towers are flattened out and smooth instead of just "tubes" then it's Columbia model. This model doesn't show up in my 1927 Cundy-Bettoney catalog but does show up in my 1933 catalog.
It's possible that it's a better Boston Wonder stenciled as a Chauvet, but I'd have to pull out my BW to see. I did pull out my Columbia and it's identical to this horn.
Hope this helps.
