I'm currently in the market for an A clarinet, and I was wondering how a Lyrique A clarinet would pair with my R13 Bb clarinet?
I'm in high school and right now I play on an E11 A clarinet and it feels very inflexible at times so I would like to upgrade but an R13 is expensive. I've researched the Lyrique and everything about it seems great, except I would like to know how it would feel switching between clarinets in Orchestra in terms of sound, keywork etc.
Any suggestions would be great!

There is a great R13 A clarinet that will match perfectly with your Bb up on the large auction site that we never name. The serial number starts with 124.

Depends on what you want.
If you want the A clarinet to sound like your Bb, you're probably not going to find that pairing the R13 with the Lyrique will work. (Yes, it probably could be done with 3d party bells and barrels, different mouthpieces, and different reeds.) But straight up, it's not likely.
However, if you want an A clarinet for a different sound than the Bb, then the Lyrique should suit you because the Lyrique design is different from the R13.
I prefer sounding differently on the two instruments, and I'm confident that most composers who specify the A clarinet in some of their work are looking for that different tonal palette.
On the other hand, if you're buying an A clarinet just for the low Eb and-or its transposing capabilities, not for tone color differences, you need to find a like-sounding pair, probably an A and Bb of the same make and model.

Just because an A clarinet is an R13 doesn't mean it will be a "perfect match".

bmc: I don't mind the idea of having different sounding clarinets but I'm more concerned with the feel of the instrument I'd be switching between the two in orchestra.
Cyclo: I play on a GAO barrel on my both my A and Bb and it helps but I still feel really uncomfortable when I play the A clarinet. It still feels stuffy and I don't get the dynamic range I get on my Bb.

Have you looked at checking and re-padding it? a very small almost undetectable leak at the top of top joint will make clarinet feel very stuffy.
