I'm a music major who has a lyrique that is interested in purchasing a hard rubber Eb Clarinet. I was wondering if anyone has tried either of them, or preferably both so they can give a comparison between them. Thanks in advance!

Mr Ridenours clarinets are exceptional, not because they're hard rubber, but because he hand adjusts every clarinet before it goes out the door.
Do not assume that just because it is make from hard rubber, that it will be anywhere near the same standard.
I would get a Bundy and get it overhauled.

I've had a Bundy Eb. I found it on the auction site for $250 and it was in very good condition. It did the trick, but I had a lot of difficulty playing the notes above high C. I exchanged it for an advanced intermediate LeBlanc and the problems above high C went away. I've not tried the Ridenour. If you can afford the more expensive Ridenour, that's the way I'd go. Fortunately, I was able to sell the Bundy for what I paid for it. Also, the Bundy has a long reach between the thumb key and the register key and I had to have an extension put on the register key so I could reach it easily.

The last Eb clarinet of Tom's design waas the Opus Eb (the Eb that was produced at Leblanc) in the early and mid 90's.
This isn't a statement on the quality of the instruments being discussed here. I'm simply stating that Tom wasn't involved in producing them.

Be careful of the 147s! They were the models that were not hand finished by Tom himself. If you want the current model you have to order it directly from his website.
Actually I don't even see Ebs on his website. He may only sell them upon special request.

Thanks for the replies so far. I wasn't only interested in these clarinets because they were hard rubber, it was mostly because I assumed that Tom Ridenour had some part in designing them. I was hoping that someone had experience with either of these instruments just to make sure that they won't be completely unreliable. I could buy them and test them out but I've only played Eb a handful of times before so I won't really know if any problems are the result of the clarinet or me. Unfortunately Mr. Ridenour doesn't sell an Eb clarinet, or I would have gone straight to the source.

It's not counterfeiting or illegal or anything like that......it's just not something Toms involved with. We receive no financial benefit from it. I only mention this so that people understand what clarinets Tom works on. At this point, as he's been operating independently for upwards of ten years, unless a clarinet says "Lyrique" on it or you bought it directly through Ridenour Clarinet Products it's more or less guaranteed Tom did not work on or design it.

Regarding TR147s. As stated, Tom worked on some of them. I have 4 old excellent B-flat ones. As always, try before buy, and if you get one he worked on, you are fortunate, and lucky.
