Anyone here tried or own a Rico Reserve mouthpiece and if so, could possibly offer their thoughts as to its playability and overall sound /worth. Thank you in advance!

I bought a Reserve x5 about a year ago. I found it a bit more resistant than I was comfortable with so I thinned the tip rail by 50%. This decreased the resistance without otherwise affecting its playability. Apart from the resistance I think its a pretty good responsive mouthpiece. Not my favourite, but I carry it as a good usable spare.

I use a Reserve 10x mp. I think this is the most closed one. I used a B40 before and sometimes try both out but generally prefer the Rico. I wouldn't have paid full price for it but I got it for free! nice little mouthpiece.

I have students who play on the X0 and X5. For the price they are very consistent (not too much variation between mouthpieces of the same type) and work quite well.

Start a new thread because some may have NEW thoughts and experiences.
I tried all three.
If you like the Chedeville (deep concavity in baffle) sound you may like one.
If you like a Kasper style it will be too dark without the projection of a Kaspar
I was disappointed.
Try them for your own opinion and for FUN!!

I have an X10, it was my main mouthpiece for a while. I liked it, and still do - it's a spare now, but I wouldn't be upset if I ended up using it for a gig! Nice rich, full sound.

Love my x5 deep rich sound with plenty of projection to be heard over all the strings in orchestra. Price point is good for the quality.
I highly recommend this mp for anyonw who is looking for something other than a vandoren.
Overall, I love it.

Can someone help educate me to the differences in Reserve mouthpieces? Are they X0, x5, and x10s. Thank you for any information you can supply. I am most interested in finding the one which would offer the greatest ease of playing for someone who hasn't played all that long and plays on a 21/2 reed. Thank you

The number after the X describes the tip opening (distance between the tip of the mouthpiece and the tip of the reed). X0=1.00 mm; X5=1.05 mm; X10=1.10 mm.

That depends on your embouchure, how you use your air, and finding the right reed for the mouthpiece.

Since you mention that you are a beginner, you might not know that most stores will let you try a few mouthpieces before selecting one for purchase. In my opinion, you should never buy a mouthpiece without trying it first.
Call the closest local store and ask if they have the Reserve moutpieces in stock. If yes, go there and try a few different models. If you can bring an experienced player with you to listen while you try them, even better. While you're there try a couple Vandoren mouthpieces as well the M15, the M13Lyre and M30 are good ones to try.
Trust your ears, and your feel for the mouthpiece more than anything being said on this BBoard.
