 Foldable Music Stands
Author: Roxann

It's time to retire my standard music stand and buy something more substantial...something along the lines of the Manhasset all metal stand, but one that folds so it can be made compact. What brand/model has worked well for you, will hold up over time, and is available for under $75? Thanks in advance.

Depending on how compact you want it, the portable Manhasset (I think it's called the Manhasset Voyager) works well.

I have a Peak stand that cost me about $30. It's plastic, not metal, but it folds up neatly into it's own carrying case. I've had it for 3 years now and it's held up well so far.

Ok, not your average wire stand. Really durable, all the tubes are permanently connected and has really usable "stand out" arms for bigger music.

The Yamaha MS303AL is very light, very strong and very expensive http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-MS-303AL-Music-Stand-Ms-303al/dp/B000PIQ66Y. I think it's the best wire stand available, but it's so light it blows over with the slightest breeze if you try to use it outside.

If you have room to carry it, the Manhasset Voyager is in a class by itself http://www.amazon.com/Manhasset-M52-Voyager-Music-Stand/dp/B0002FOEGY.

As mentioned above, the Peak Music Stand SMS-20 is very sturdy, folds compactly and is more than sufficient.

I agree about the Peak stand. Affordable and comes with its own bag. I've had mine several years and recommend them to my friends and students.

I had a Manhasset Voyager that was in the trunk of my car when I was rear-ended and the car totaled. While I had to straighten out the desk somewhat, I continued to use the stand for several more years. I bought a Hercules stand eventually...but it's heavier than the Voyager. Even in it's own bag, it's not as easy to carry around. The desk didn't seem able to hold a heavy music folder as well. I bought a new Voyager recently and glad I did. The Hercules stand is just taking up space right now. Voyager is lighter and easier to carry in it's bag.

I just bought the Manhasset Voyager. Thanks, everybody, for your help in making this decision.
