An amazing performance. Harold Wright's sound and style are so perfectly made for this piece. I also love anything R. Strauss.

A live performance! Wonderful! What a beautiful, lyrical sound ... this piece is made to order for Mr. Wright.

I wish there was some way to truly capture, preserve and reproduce the ambiance and smallest nuance of performances such as this. Binaural recording?

There are binaural recordings, usually executed by placing mics on the sides of a mannequin's head. The ideal playback for those recordings is to listen to them with headphones.

There is SOOOOOO much equipment and recording technology that that has chased the 'absolute sound' for SOOOOOO many years. I have come to the conclusion that one should enjoy what recordings we have on whatever equipment we have for what they are. The extreme alternative is to get into the "chase" which (at least at our level technical achievement so far) will NEVER equal attending a live performance.

I agree Paul, and all the more since no two persons have the identical hearing apparatus response.

Richard, my initial reaction to this thread was that you must think that Harold Wright had somehow emasculated Strauss' work. I see now, however, that is not the case. You obviously admire the performance. So do I. Thanks for pointing it out.
