Leather Ligature Cap Fit over BG Ligature
Author: LJBraaten

I purchased a (used) BG Super Revelation nearly two years ago. The plastic cap that came with it quickly developed cracks, which gradually worsened. Two months ago the cap became useless. I replaced it with a cheap generic cap which I attempted to modify so that it might last longer, but I have no confidence it will endure a year. (Part of the problem may be that I store the mouthpiece with an old reed on it to protect the table from the ligature plate. This puts additional pressure on the system)

Rather than keep buying plastic I am thinking about converting to leather. Right now I am aware of the Van Doren which go for around $30 US. I am willing to pay this, but I am not sure if it will fit over my ligature. Does anyone have this combination? Are there other good mouthpiece cap options?

Note: this is not intended to be a discussion on whether or not we should use mouthpiece caps. I find them useful for several reasons. If someone would like to start another thread on that topic I would probably follow it with great interest, might even post to it.

Yes, works fine. The Vandoren Leather cap is held on though with a styrofoam surround. This slowly gets more compressed and loose with wear.

Another possible option is the tiny plastic "capping" device that just covers the tip of the reed and mouthpiece made by Francois Louis. Of course I had a hard time finding a new one just over a year ago. These may not be made any more......not sure.

The ligature cap by Rovner works great for most any ligature. Large and very sturdy.

I'm a BG Artist - they approached me.

Thanks David and Paul.

David: that was my first thought. I have a Rovner Dark ligature but the cap is too small. What type of Rovner cap are you referring to?

For now I am using a flimsy cap from one of those Chinese made BG clones they sell on the unmentionable website.
