 Vandoren Master Bb Mouthpiece Specs
Author: ThatPerfectReed

Several searches of the internet (e.g. http://www.vandoren-en.com/MASTERS-Bb-Clarinet-Mouthpieces_a152.html including the product fact sheet you can click on) and the bboard, that were thorough, but by no means exhaustive, have not helped me much with attributes on these 3 products like tip opening, rail width, etc.

While these metrics mean little to me if testing these products yield either wonderful or bad results for me, I am interested nonetheless if anyone has such info.

People's impression of the product line ARE certainly covered on the bboard--my questions regard the scientific metrics of size that we can all agree on.

Thank you

I don't believe Vandoren has published any metrics on this product.

And now there is a CL6 that we don't know anything about as well.

It may be wise to contact David Gould at the Vandoren Musical Advisory Studio in NYC. . He is available via email and phone.

Possibly online at a site such as wwbw.com there is more info, but companies can be very tightlipped about dimensions. The Reserve Mouthpiece box has a bunch of dimensions as the design, but they aren't actual real numbers, just artwork.

Vandoren is normally not tight lipped about the dimensions of most of their Bb Clarinet mouthpiece dimensions, otherwise available online and for download.

I think Vandoren has taken the right step in some regards.. a more open facing with lighter reeds in the C series may work for orchestral players like myself who play and practice a lot!

it would not take alot of work for someone to take some pictures of these pieces and/or even measure them against a feeler gauge. These things are not so new..but alas when machined right can produce a very decent design. Rico has a new line of mouthpieces and I can say they are very good.

Now, back to Vandoren, I must admit the M13 lyre and m15 are certain very fine Chedeville style facings. Having not tried the C series does anyone know for certain whether or not they are symetrical? Once we establish this we can get down to the kind of animal they are. If not symetrical they certainly may still well be worth investigating..especailly by serious players who work alot over even amateurs who play alot who can sound as great as any so called pro.

Questions..

are the bore A style or H style on the C series.

does the tip look like a rolled tip or the usual flat tip...

does the mouthpiece at the exit show slight opening over the m series relative flat exit

I'm sorry, I am a bit confused over the designation to which you refer. What are the "C" Series mouthpieces?

Ok, the CL4 is definitely an "H" style throat.

Compared side by side with an M13, the throat is smaller but this maybe part of it being 'standard pitch' (I do not have access to a 13 series Masters).

Also, the bore seems a bit tighter on the CL4 (also related to being 'standard pitch?').

The tip is flat - no rolling.

The whole reed side of the mouthpiece (table and everything to tip) is 1mm narrower than the M13.

I am not clear on this question: "does the mouthpiece at the exit show slight opening over the m series relative flat exit"

Clarification?
