The recent 'D' mouthpieces (B40D, M30D) are designed for German clarinets using French reeds. That's why the tenon is longer.
To fit the wider German barrel Vandoren makes the cork thicker. The tenon width is small enough to fit in a French barrel. You may have to sand the cork a bit.
So you can use it also on French clarinets.
If the pitch is too low I would shorten the tenon to match the French socket length.
The older German mouthpieces (e.g. VD3) come in 2 tenon sizes: W (Wide to fit German barrels) and S (Small to fit French size barrels).
