I also could never figure out exactly what the "D" mouthpiece was built for.
Wurlitzer Oehler clarinets (like all other Oehler clarinets) take a mouthpiece that is smaller as far as what we see on top of the clarinet (beak, length,body) but the tenon is larger in diameter (this is/was to facilitate the extra torque associated with wrapping string around the reed/mouthpiece).
I ordered a "D" for my Wurlitzer back in the early '90s only to find it WAY too small (it literally fell into and rolled around the upper socket of my barrels).
A friend of mine has a "D" currently that he uses on a Boehm. I think his is long by a millimeter........."what instrument were they meant to fit????"
