Wonderful playing!

It was probably worth the wait, the NYPO got it right.

Well deserved. This is a good pick.

David, I don't have to wait up all night to get the NYT in the morning.

And my cleaning bill will be lower at the end of the week.

I had announced it on facebook, but Anthony wanted to wait till it was in the NYT tomorrow.

Then WQXR announced it, so the cat was out of the bag :)

I had heard about this several weeks ago but wasn't 100% sure about it, so I had a very good and accurate source! But now I cannot remember who told me! I like accurate sources of info.

Such great news. Mr. McGill is one of my favorite clarinetists. Such a rich sound and a great story with his brother.

I agree with Paul- he is worth the wait, and the NYP definitely got this one right.

Are you guys sure?

I thought McGill ultimately turned the position down citing family reasons.

Oh wait, that was Morales and Williamson........so far. [wink]

McGill was originally on trial a few years ago before (ie) when he was playing Pines of Rome with the orchestra? I wonder why they didn't hire him back then?

Me thinks in order to be principal of NYPhil one must first be principal with the Met (Ie Ricardo, Steve, now McGill)... Let's hope the NY Phil has a keeper this time around and that they finally record this Nielsen concerto. Afterall, McGill is actually on "leave of absence" from the Met. So at the end of all this, who knows? Maybe McGill goes back to the Met in a year - NY Phil has no principal clarinet player for the fourth time, and they hire Boris from the Met...

Anyway, he's a great musician and choice for the orchestra. I hope it's a good fit for him!

I guess playing principal in the Met is the step up to the NY Philharmonic. McGill is a very fine player and should do a great job. I've known him from the time he was a Curtis Student performing with us in Baltimore a few times and I taught with him at Peabody for a few years. . He perfromed the Mozart in Baltimore a few months ago and did a beautiful job, as usual. I'm very happy for him.

He needs to adopt a few kids over the summer so that if he decides to go back to the MET at the end of the season, he can cite "family reasons" like the other guys.
