 Bass clarinet replacement neck

I have a Leblanc Paris Bass clarinet, probably (from the logo) 60's vintage. SN 51xx. I would like to get another neck for it with the later steeper angle (I'd like to play with the instrument body a little more vertical and not have to tuck the bell under the chair). The diameter of the metal tenon is 1.023" this slips into the metal head piece and has a thumb screw to tighten the sleeve. I know that Bay makes replacement necks but the price is pretty steep. I see that Vito has a replacement neck available which looks to have a similar connection to the clarinet head piece, and has the angle I'm looking for. I've checked with a couple of vendors, but none seem to know the diameter of the tenon. WWBW said it might fit and could be returned if it didn't. I was hoping that because Leblanc and Vito seem to be related the size might be the same, but 40 years later??? Any thoughts?

Thanks

Have you tried an E-Bay search? Just type in "bass clarinet neck". You'll be suprised at how many postings you'll find and how interchangeable many of these parts are. Don't order any from China. You can't send things back if you don't like them or they don't fit.

Well, I have one of those adjustable Chinese necks I bought to slightly raise the pitch of a Lefebre BC. It works fine but it doesn't raise the pitch enough to use it , even when pushed all the way in. I'm thinking of visiting my granddaughters in Kingsburg about the 20th of May and could bring it for you to try, if that makes sense to you. My granddaughter Kelsey is a sophomore and plays the Bb and Eb clarinets in the Kingsburg HS band, the bass in the HS jazz band, and the cello in a church orchestra.

I can re-angle the Leblanc neck, contact me offline if interested.

BTW I've purchased two of the Chinese "eBay" necks and they work just fine. Some grinding down of the tenons was required to fit the two (different) instruments I used them on. A belt sander is your best friend here.

I found that Vito has a neck that looks similar to the Leblanc (probably also similar to the "Chinese" versions seen on Ebay). I ordered one through The Guitar Center on the condition that it could be returned if it didn't fit. It arrived today and I went to pick it up. It was a little loose but I put a wrap of clear tape around it and it seemed to work OK when checked with an open G at the store. So I took it home. Well it didn't turn out to well. Any thing above the break would not play. Without the tape the tongue is about .006 smaller that the Leblanc. The angle was great, but it just wouldn't work. l took it back and they took it back without a problem, great customer service. It looks like I will just have to live with the stock neck, or maybe let David have a go at it. At this time in my musical career, a Bay$$$$ neck is out of the question as I am new to the (any) instrument (My last and unfortunately unsuccsessfull attempt at learning to play a musical instrument (trumpet) was in Jr. high in the fifties.) Ironically, I'm back in Jr. high band. The band instructor at the local K-12 Church Academy is also the leader of the church orchestra and invited anyone who would like to learn to play an instrument to come and join the band for free lessons. I'm first chair bass clarinet (by default, I'm the only "kid" that has one!).

Thanks for your replies, John
