 Pad differences

I recently restored a H Bettoney Bb Silva Bet using cork pads on the upper joint only to find that due to the sound amplification of a metal instrument the cork pads were very loud so I changed them to leather pads and noticed a definite change in resistance and tone.

The cork pads are much harder and present a smoother reflecting surface so I would expect a slightly brighter sound from them.
Being harder they will also not have the tendency to curve into the tonehole that leather does (at least after some period of use) and this affects the volume contained within the tonehole chimney which again will have some effect (probably subtle) on the sound.
Leather pads will probably need a little more venting than cork to provide a similar resistance.

are you sure there are no leaks? Have you checked with leak light/paper strips?

Yes I checked with both. No leaks present.
