The Clarinet BBoard

Hello,
I am thinking of getting a second Bb (full boehm) and went onto that site.
The Selmers are a bit pricy for me but the rest do interest me.
Just need some help identifying the makers /description of the clarinets.
1) Buffet R16 3/4
This is more of a pre-R13 right? I saw on some serial no. listing site that the start of the R13 was in the 1950s+ so i reckon this probably wouldn't have the similar dimensions to the actual R13s itself?
I also search on the bboard and saw that while a good instrument, intonation was an issue but maybe someone could shed some light on it?
Particularly if comparision to a Vintage R13 (around the Golden Era) which is what I am using now.
2) Otmar Hammerschmidt "Klingson" Special
Anyone had experience with this model before? Is it a pro model?
I seem to find that Klingson appears on Frank /Otmar /other Austrian makers instruments but am completely clueless as their individual website do not mention anything about them. I am guessing that it is an old model.
Thank you so much!

I believe R16 3/4 was Carl Fisher's designation for a full Boehm Buffet. Their designation of the standard Buffet was R13. These names predated the bore redesign into the modern R13 around 1955. Since R13 was used as a name before and after, I see no reason to assume that R16 3/4 means a pre-1955 instrument. Buffet certainly made full Boehms for a long time after that. So the only way to tell is get the serial number. The switch-over was around 50,000. If the number is close to that, you'll need to look for other signs; ample discussion to be found by searching this BB.

Buffet full Boehms from the '60s have very small toneholes compared to more recent R13/RC full Boehms.
I've got a Buffet full Boehm from the '60s and the toneholes are tiny.

Here I found in Otmar Hammerschmidt's price list his 18/6 Boehm model OH-470
at 3960 Euros new:

- compared with the 18/5 Buffet Crampon R13 from Thomann (big German internet discounter):

@John Peacock
The serial number is #40,867 so that puts in i guess around the early 1950s or earlier?
@Chris P
How do they play if it was against a Golden era r13?

There is a full Bohem RC (1980) that I am watching. In a sense I guess I am more familiar hands-on wise with the instruments past the 50000s mark than as compared to one before them.

I had a Hammerschmidt "Klingson" Special in cocobolo for a little while - 18 keys and 7 rings. I wasn't overly impressed with it and sold it on. The C#/G# tuning was far too sharp - maybe fitting a tonehole insert as on Oehlers would solve this. The joints and bore were lacquered on this one.

Yes, 1949 or 1950. Almost certainly from before the bore redesign. I have a 38,000 Buffet (normal keywork), which is not so impressive - tuning is all over the place. Based on those I've played, things seem to have been better before the war. But probably the problem was lack of quality control and consistency, so you might get lucky - it's plausible they might have put their best craftsmen on the full-Boehm instruments.

Thanks a lot!!
I'll think I directly aim for the RC /Hammerschmidt one.
Just hope that the F series is not A=444...
