A Cl parts to Prokofiev's Classical Symphony
Author: Brian Peterson

IMSLP has the parts in Bb, but I understand that they're also out there somewhere in A. Sorry to say that I don't feel like playing it in Bb or transposing, but there you have it. Thanks in advance for the help.

You might check with someone at Luck'S Music Library. Their edition says "Trans: cl 1&2. hn & tpt orig. in Mod. Keys." I don't know what that means - as far as I've ever seen, it wasn't ever published with clarinets in C, even though the score (like all of Prokofiev's scores) shows every instrument at concert pitch. So whether "Trans: cl 1&2. orig. in Mod. Keys" means Bb parts transposed to A or not they'd probably have to tell you. The parts are apparently $3.50 apiece.

Prokofieff never specified what key he wanted the clarinets in - he left that to his copyists.

I have even seen a Peter and the Wolf part in C!

Kalmus should have an A clarinet part for sale that is not too expensive.

I asked Clinton Nieweg, who edited the current Kalmus edition of the Prokifiev Classical to ask if his edition includes parts transposed for A clarinet. Here is his response:

"Please inform the list that the Nieweg Kalmus C2010 publishes the original Clarinets in A and parts for Bb Clarinets.
As this is a proofed corrected critical edition it would be wise to not use
with older reprints with their mistakes. Preface to the critical edition
is attached.
If a set of the Nieweg edition was bought between 2010 and 2012 the corrections from my student Lawrence Halverson should be added to the Kalmus scores and parts.
In 5/2012 a second printing with these corrections was published by Edwin F.

Two attachments were included with Clinton Nieweg's post. I tried to attach them to my post above, but got an error (hence the duplicates-I didn't realize the body of the post was actually being transmitted).

The error says "You cannot attach anything to this message. Either you are not the author of the message or the maximum number of attachments have been attached."

Mark, what does this actually mean and what do I need to do to attach these two short Word files (or is that the problem-maybe Word files aren't acceptable?)?

Clearly, I'm doing something wrong in trying to attach the files. Each of the now blank messages was a partial version of the last one to which I tried to make the attachments. While telling me I couldn't attach the files, the message bodies were apparently being sent.

I did, BTW, get explicit permission from Clinton to post the attachments.

Help!
