Thanks...

What do you want to do with them? What level are you playing at, how much do you want to spend, what are your choice criteria? More information needed for a meaningful answer.

Jupiter is not known for their instrument quality. Yamaha on the other hand makes very nice instruments. Just my opinion though.
Good luck finding your next clarinet.

I concur with the above post. For the extra buck you get a much better instrument.

Jdbassplayer "Jupiter is not known for their instrument quality".

That could have been said about the Jupiter brand a few years ago but the quality of Jupiter Flutes and Clarinets for example has improved out of sight since then.
I have the JCL-631-11 plastic student Clarinet and the 'workmanship' is excellent. For a plastic Clarinet I can't fault it. I'd therefore assume that Jupiter wooden Clarinets are also of good quality.
I also have a Jupiter JFL-711E Flute (Sterling Silver Head /Body/ & Foot Joint)
It is also excellent and a real pleasure to play.

I have a Jupiter bass clarinet and am more than pleased with its quality and would rate it nearly on par (my specific instrument at least) with Yamaha's corresponding model.
I wouldn't hesitate to try one of their wooden sopranos.

Thanks for the replies. I'd say I'm an intermediate player, but don't want to settle for a cheap student clarinet. I've seen the Jupiter 635NW retail for $1250 and the Yamaha YCL-450 for about $1500. However, they're about the same price on Amazon or eBay (new Jupiter vs slightly used Yamaha). They're both wood and have similar descriptions. Obviously I'd love to spend the money for an R13 or a Yamaha 650, but of those 2 previous options, which would you suggest?

Thanks...

My personal choice would be the Yamaha. There's not a lot of difference between the YCL450 and 650, certainly not enough difference to justify the higher price. The 450 gives you a lot of horn for the money, and they seem to hold their value better if you ever decide to sell it or trade up.
