Recently I prematurely recieved a testing sample of German bass clarinet mouthpieces from the great Nick Kuckmeier(PlayNick). However, their tenons are wider than my Pillinger mouthpiece and cannot fit into my adaptor.
Can a mouthpiece be tested by playing the mothpiece itself alone? If so, how can I distinguish its performance?

Oboists and bassoonists can tell a lot from the "crow" of a reed played by itself, bit I've never heard of a single-reed player doing it. I've tried it but haven't been able to tell much.

Actually I can tell but I am not certain. The Playnick mouthpieces sounded clear and crisp by themselves, but does that mean it will sound good on an instrument?

NO
How is it handling the upper registers? Can you articulate swiftly in all registers? Does it allow you to play in tune on YOUR clarinet (the tenon might only be the first of its problems for you)?
really can't say

Thank you. I'm afraid that if you search "Dick Vigorous," you'll find that he and his ancestors, who seem to pass the name down in their convoluted and incestuous family lineage (along with the habit of using English as if they're chanelling film noir gangsters), have invaded this bb before. They seem to like the sound of a clarinet, as long as it squeaks. My apologies! Apparently animals find my brain easy to "borrow." I prefer not to speculate about the reas
Ahem. Enough about the rodents. Ick. Jane Feline here. If Dick Vigorous or any of his disgusting associates have the nerve to enter this house, it will be my pleasure to rend them into mutilated extinction from my domain, whereupon they will annoy you no further. Although I greatly prefer to be served nice clean meals in a dish prepared by my human servants, I do enoy killing vermin for spor

This thread started with a 16 year old player asking for genuine advice. It's a pity it has developed into inane drivel.

NO, you can not. You must see how it feels and tunes in all registers.
