 Bb to C trills

Again, I have run into a problem while working on my recital. I am working on a solo clarinet version of Molly on the Shore by Percy Grainger and there are two areas giving me troubles. These areas are 16th note triplets that go from a C natural to a Bb in the clarion register the first time and the altissimo register later. While I usually just use the regular fingerings for these notes for eighth notes and slower triplets, it's just not cutting it for these faster 16th note triplets. I was wondering if there is an easier way to finger these, such as trill fingering? Especially for the altissimo/higher clarion stuff (C6 to Bb5, if I'm not wrong on the numbers there if middle C is C4).

Thank you!

-Lauren

Play the [Bb5] TR x x I o / o o o

Trill to [C6] by using the 2 lower RH side keys

The way I would it is to use the normal Bb side key in the RH for the Bb and just leave the side key done when trilling to the C so you only have to move the two top LH fingers. The other way would be to use the Fork, or Sliver, key for the Bb in the LH and trill to the C from that.
For the Octave lower, throat tone, play the normal Bb and trill the top 2 side keys in the RH.

But Ed, isn't that trill awfully wide? GBK's fingering is more in tune.

For the lower octave I was always taught to use the top two trill keys together.

I use Ed's suggestion and have done since I can remember. I've never noticed the interval being wide on any clarinet I've played it on. Standard fingering really.

Sorry for being slow, but what's the fingering for the Bb? I can't translate the fingering to the clarinet

RMK54, yes, I stand corrected, I meant the top two side keys. I'll go back and edit it. Jon, the upper Bb is fingering the high A and adding the lowest RH side key or the LH "fork" key that's under the second finger. Playing a 12th above the Eb on the first line of the staff.

Makes me glad I play clarinets with the LH forked Eb/Bb mechanism!

Agreed, Chris! They really should be more common.
