Hi

Is anyone familiar with the Noblet 4 clarinet? Any idea when/where it was made, etc.?

Thank you

Nitai

from what I found in Google, it's a rebranded Normandy 4 of the latest incarnation.

Got pictures?

The Noblet 4 is indeed the familiar Normandy 4, made in the mid-2000's during the last few years of Noblet clarinet production in La Couture Boussey, France. This facility was acquired by Buffet-Crampon in 2008.

Despite not being produced since c. 2008, the Noblet 4--and even the earlier Normandy 4--can still be found for sale in new, unused condition.

I don't have any photos, didn't have time to take any. This one fell and had a lot of damage. I'm trying to see if it's possible to get a new upper joint (to find how it would be price wise compared with repairing this one) but don't see the Noblet 4 listed anywhere. Maybe a Normandy 4 would get me somewhere.

This one is made of wood and looked relatively new (i.e. guessing less than approx 15 years).

Eric Satterlee may have a replacement joint.

Are you sure the Noblet 4 and the Normandy 4 are the same?

Yes...to a point. The Normandy 4 was in production for nearly four decades and there were some revisions to the keywork. If you are going to use a Normandy 4 as a donor instrument, just make sure it has the same trumpet-shaped logo as a Noblet 4 with "NORMANDY 4" underneath in all capital letters.

An older Normandy 4 will have a shield-design logo with "Normandy" in script with the number 4 below "Normandy" inside the shield. These are the ones you'll want to avoid.

...and, honestly, if you get a compatible Normandy 4, you might do better just playing the Normandy 4, rather than using its top joint to repair a broken Noblet 4. You could then retain the Noblet 4 as a parts instrument.

Thanks. I think I will have to get photos of the donor and compare. I can't remember what logo the Noblet 4 had so will have check again. I don't have a Normandy 4, but I have someone who can donate a Normandy 4 upper joint.
