My first Buffet R-13 B-flat from Kal Opperman cost $250 in the late 60's.

That sounds about right, since my first R13 (96xxx) was also $250 in 1967.
I still have it and use it weekly. No cracks, great projection, slightly sharp in the upper register but totally manageable with a Backun MOBA 67mm barrel.

In 1984, I attended a wedding in New York. Before returning home, I stopped by Leon Russianoff's shop on Broadway. I'd done a lot of business (mail order) with Russianoff Wind Instruments, Inc., and I wanted to meet Leon in person. I don't remember much, but I recall that he was very nice. He gave me a copy of the spring 1984 issue of ClariNetwork magazine, the official publication of ClariNetwork InterNational, Inc. For some reason, I stashed this magazine on a shelf in my basement, and didn't see it again until about a month ago.
On the inside of the back cover, there's a full page ad for Russianoff Wind Instruments. Here's a partial list of prices:
Korg Tuner Reg. Price--$114.50 Sale--$104.95
(Play any note and it immediately
tells you whether it is sharp or
flat and how many "cents"; built
in speaker sounds)
Buffet B-flat Reg. Price--$815 Sale--$765
Buffet A (with double case) Reg. Price--$915 Sale--$865
Buffet Option 3 Reg. Price--$850 Sale--$785
(with complete regulation,
some cork pads, by Murray
Snyder)
Evette B-flat model 11 Reg. Price--$269 Sale--$259.95
Russianoff Method Vol. 1, Vol. II $14.95 each
Both volumes for $27.90
Marcellus Mouthpiece Reg. Price--$38.50 Sale--$35.00
Larry Combs Mouthpiece Reg. Price--$35.00 Sale--$29.00
Russianoff Mouthpiece Reg. Price--$35.00 Sale--24.95

In 1954 my folks bought me a top of the line Buffet for $160. I remember how bummed out I was given Leblancs were the horns to own at that time.

In the early 60s, you could go to the Buffet factory and pick out an R13 for $99, without a case.
