Loving my new Backun MoBa Bell
Author: ChuChu

I just got done trying a selection of MoBa bells for my Buffet and Selmer clarinets and I am very impressed with the improvements I feel with a selected MoBa grenadilla bell without voicing groove has made to my Selmer Paris Bb clarinet. The sound is so much open, round, full, much greater dynamic range, clarity and focus. I can play loud so easily and yet sound like it is not distorting at all. Thanks Backun Musical Service for an excellent product.

I'm glad it works for you.
For the rest of us yet to be convinced, would it be possible to somehow post something played before & after so we too can hear the change?
Thanks

Sorry, I won't post any recordings but I can hear the differences compared to my older Backun traditional bells and other Selmer bells that I have on my Selmer Paris Omega clarinet. I recorded myself and I hear improvements.

Also, the tuning with the bell is excellent and the response I should say is improved as there seems to be less of a delay and the notes come out quicker and more fluid throughout the clarinet. This is the best improvement I've found for this clarinet and I'm sure it would work for other Selmer Bb clarinets but it didn't work well for my Selmer Signature A clarinet for some reason.

So what's not to like? I use his bells on both my Buffets and my Selmer Signature Bb. Quality stuff.

It is so difficult to do double blind comparisons of features of musical instruments, but it seems to me that it would be easy with bells if they have similar weight.

I wonder if you would consider doing some double blind testing to determine if the difference are entirely autosuggestion or real.

The tests could be in two parts. One involving playing all notes. The other excluding E/B and F/C notes, which are more likely to be affected if any notes are.

Double blind tests are for laboratories.

I strongly feel that since clarinet playing is still an art form (thank god), it should be up to the artist to determine just what makes him sound better, or even feel better (which ever the case may be) as he/she creates his/her art.

And honestly, since there is no such thing as agreement on something as simple as interpretation of a given piece of music, there couldn't possibly be any quorum on which bell sounded better in a recording.

Chu Chu has made an artistic evaluation and has shared that experience with this group. We can decide to try some similar improvement for ourselves or not............that's our choice.

I suppose that I am of a personality that if I could do a simple test to proves my beliefs to be true, I would.

And I certainly was not suggesting a quorum. That would definitely not be scientific.
