 Age of Monopole
Author: gkern

I have searched the threads re: Couesnon Monopole serial numbers, and have surmised by extrapolation that my horn, serial #10303, would have been made in the early 1940s. Since this was during WWII, I am guessing that it would have been made in the late 1930s.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? And, was this model a predecessor to the Monopole Conservatoire, or is it a different breed?

Contrary to what many people believe instruments were still being manufactured in France throughout the war although in much lower numbers that in the years before and after. I have seen some information suggesting that Selmer Paris was operating at ~30% of their pre-war output from 1941-1945.

Thanks Steve, I'm surprised to hear that. Any guess as to year of manufacture or lineage of the Monopole? Am attaching a graphic of the emblem on the upper joint.
