Elizabeth -

Really good. You've obviously worked hard, and you and your pianist had great rapport. All I'd like to hear (and see) is even **more** operatic drama. Think Martin Fröst. If you can manage it, try not using a neck strap so that you can move more freely.

It's no shame that you got a little physically and mentally tired at the end of the brutal Bassi fantaisia, which goes on forever. Pre-concert and concert stress will sap everyone's endurance. Now you know how much extra preparation it takes to be 100% sure.

Play lots more concerts, and put them on YouTube for us to enjoy.

I think Frost flaps around way, way too much, to the point of being distracting.

I would like to be able to play without a neck strap but I wind up with pain and I find that the weight of the clarinets (esp. my A) winds up contorting my hand. Its not so much tension as it is the weight of the horn. But thank you, and thank you for listening!

Very nice Christine - I listened to the Artie Shaw Clarinet Concerto also, like the way you bend notes, and the glissando at about 7:00.

Manasse uses a neckstrap, and doesn't appear to be impeded in his motions.

That said: I think some of that "showmanship" is taking a way, or at least not improving, the musicianship.

I usually close my eyes while at concert anyway!

PS -- no, I'm not asleep.

There's nothing wrong with using a neck strap. If Ricardo Morales, Jon Manassee and Mark Nuccio use them, then anyone can.

In watching you, I felt that your movement and musicianship were a little constrained by the neck strap. I wouldn't have mentioned it otherwise.

My right hand and wrist hurt terribly when I stood to play until I went to a physical therapist who specialized in musicians. She saw the problem immediately and determined a new position for my thumb rest, nearly half an inch higher and well to the right, based on my hand shape (short thumb, wide palm). I've been pain-free for 20 years. It's certainly worth the one-time expense.
