Geez, the dense sections seem to lose a little of their normal feeling of "controlled chaos."

The explanation says it was made using "virtual instrument software by Vienna Symphonic Library."
The pre-recorded samples sound very good, but the opening bassoon solo sounds as if it was recorded two or three octaves lower, very relaxed and easy. Stravinsky said that he wanted it to sound strained -- almost impossible. When he heard bassoonists playing it with special Sacre reeds, he said he was sorry he didn't write the solo even higher.
I've read that Stravinsky intended for the tempo to be MUCH faster but found that orchestras of the time couldn't do it. There's a recording by Stravinsky on two pianos in which the fast section goes at around 136. Suddenly there's a swing to it -- far different from the usual elephant-stomp performance.

It sounds incredible at the start.
But, when it gets into the more violent sections the sound appears more synthetic - perhaps it is difficult to replicate the timbre of a harder attack in the instruments. Also, in the scalic passages, the sound is just too even - real-life legato seems different to the computerised version.
Recently I've just come across some software called Notion, which uses samples from the London Symphony Orchestra, and the sound is fantastic. But, my hope is that is purely for the benefit of composers, and not for audiences...

I really enjoy watching the animated graphic score. It makes me notice parts that I don't normally hear, eg. the mad flute part at 2:12!
The VIS is really good. I think that if I heard this on the radio, I would never guess that it wasn't real instruments.

We can digitize them too.
If that ever happens, I hope they will be digitalized without the usual chatter, candy wrapper/programme rattle.......
