 Cab Calloway... What an inspiration
Author: Paula S

I have just been playing Minnie the Moocher on eefer in the concert band I belong to. Just love it! I first remember hearing it and Cab Calloway in the Blues Brothers film (1980) but the more authentic recordings just blow me away. Not a clarinettist as far as I know but he just gives me that vibe which totally inspires me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mq4UT4VnbE What a performer!

After watching the referenced video, I also watched this one which was on the same page:

Cab Calloway was mentioned in this, too, by the old gentleman in the nursing home as being among his favorites through his earlier life.

I think this story is inspiring, but of course, there's the possibility that this video was staged (so many are now). I personally think it's for real though, and if so, it shows what music can do for the soul.

I was inspired as well. Henry also had good pitch and even jazzed up the lyrics for I'll be Home for Christmas.

Here's another link on Henry's Story.

PS The Blues Brother's is still a terrific movie after 30 years. I just got it on Bluray!

WOW. What a story. Music brings him back to life.

I was way down (though obviously not that far) six months ago. Music is what got me through.

I've got Sam "the Man" Taylor's White Brilhart Tenor Sax Mouthpiece (from his Estate "supposedly" - I do have my doubts looking at pictures of him playing) who played in Cab's Band.

In High School, I played on a Concerto Competition winner's performance with Pianist Joel Martin who ended up directing the Calloway Band for quite a few years.

Great group!
