 Buffet Champon consecutive serial numbers.

Today I acquired a Buffet Champon Bb clarinet dating to 1968. What I find very unusual is that the two main sections have consecutive serial numbers of 100369 and 100370. Could someone explain if this was a factory error or what?. Thanks, MrNoah

Incredibly unusual. To my knowledge (and I'd love to hear someone's dissenting experience) the serial numbers on the upper and lower joint should be the same.

Thanks for your response. If it is not a factory error, I would think that possibly a music store ordered two Buffet clarinets with consecutive serial numbers and somehow the parts got switched. Also possible that the two clarinets were sold to the same buyer and somehow over the many years parts got switched or one clarinet was made out of parts of the two.
Hope someone has a good explanation.

I had exactly same thing happen 50 years ago when I bought my Leblancs in London. There was a mismatch between upper and lower joint numbers on one instrument and it turned out the dealer/importer had ordered 2 identical pairs and then mixed up the joints on one. Fortunately quickly sorted.

Sounds like a most probable explanation to your situation.
