 Repertoire for Clarinet doubling bass
Author: JBOverture

Hi All,

Wondering if anyone knows of any repertoire where the clarinet doubles on bass. Looking for any sort of solo or chamber music.

I'm aware of Golijov's 'Dreams and Prayers...' but thats about it.

Thanks,

Jarrod

Andrew Brandt's catalog of wind quintet music lists a few pieces where the clarinet doubles bass clarinet.

D. Argento's "To be sung upon the water" is for soprano, clarinet doubling bass clarinet, and piano.

Trionometry for Flute, Clarinet/Bass Clarinet and Piano by Richard Festinger. C.F. Peters, 1996, SS, includes parts and piano score. Richard Festinger (1948-) studied composition at the University of California in Berkeley with Andrew Imbrie. Before turning to composing, he led his own groups as a jazz performer. He has taught at the University of California in Berkeley and Davis, Dartmouth College, and since 1990 at San Francisco State University. Written in 1996. In three movements: I. A la breve/Vivace, II. Andantino, and III. Allegro. An advanced work with a duration of about 15 minutes. The first and last movements are for bass clarinet with some notes in the extended range.

Concerto for Doubles by Ralph Hermann has movements for alto sax, bass clarinet and Bb clarinet. It was written for Al Gallodoro in a light classic style. The clarinet movement in particular calls for Al's beyond-impossible finger speed. He recorded it on "The Many Sides of Al Gallodoro" CD available at http://www.algallodoro.com/buy-music.html.

Bret Pimentel is a multi-woodwind doubler and has many entries on his site http://bretpimentel.com/.

And of course there's the Doublers board here, though it's rather inactive http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/list.html?f=17.
