Marcus Bonna Case suit German Bore

Does anyone know if the Marcus Bonna double case would fit a German bore b flat? I am getting a hybrid clarinet, German bore with French mechanism with some different keywork. I still have a buffet a clarinet and just need to know if the case would cater for the larger bore size.

It should do - the bore size is only a matter of fractions of a millimetre so won't have much impact on the outer diameter (width) of the joints. If the case compartments are pliable, then you shouldn't have any problem.

What may be more of a concern is the joint lengths as German style clarinets (and Yamaha CSGs) have longer top joints with shorter barrels in comparison to the standard French instruments. Again, if the innards of the case are pliable, then they will soon conform to the different joint lengths and additional keywork.

Best thing to do is measure the joint lengths and contact the Marcus Bonna company to see if they can let you know the lengths of the compartments and if they have much give in them.

I own a Frank Hammerschmidt boehm clarinet, it has an Austrian bore size app. 15mm.
The normal case do not hold it!
The upper joint is much longer then the standard French horn.

Ok, these look remarkably like the BAM cases from France. At any rate, the products are made in Europe so there should not be a problem contacting them directly and ordering the case you want for a GERMAN horn (that is, if the top joint is remarkably long with a corresponding short barrel roughly 54mm).

Marcus Bonna cases are nothing like BAM cases-- the concept of the MB case is to "suspend" the joints securely, rather than surround them with molded foam. This is partly what makes the MB cases so lightweight.

The foam pieces that suspend the joints are attached by velcro, and thus can be customized. I just took a look at my MB case, and unfortunately, the foam piece that holds the B-flat upper joint can't be moved at all... so, I don't think a MB case would work for you.

I do have a suggestion, though: I had an extra Buffet Bb case a couple of years ago. I needed a single case for my A clarinet, so I simply snipped away the fabric that holds the upper tenons of the joints, cut out some of the foam, and sewed it back together. Works perfectly, and has held up great. You could do the same thing with a molded double case, whether it be BAM or Buffet. If you don't feel comfortable doing this yourself, I know that some repair techs can alter cases as well.

The bonna case can accomodate the german length clarinets as well. I used the same bonna case for my set of R-13s and later for my CSGII's which have upper joints that are 10mm longer.
