 Age of a Buffet Clarinet
Author: jd35

Hi guys, I'm looking to buy an RC Prestige Serial Number 502607 and I was wondering would anyone know how old is actually is?

The new Buffet site doesn't have the serial number option on it. I'm thinking it's at least 2002/2003.

Would really appreciate any help with this.

Cheers, Jack.

From records I have kept of clarinets passing through my workshop I would agree that it is 2002/3 but most likely 2002.

Thanks for that, did you notice a drop in quality as the years went on as well? I've tried some new Prestiges and they've been crap, saying that most have been superb.

Its about time that Buffet removed the unreliable serial number look up window from their website. It seriously caused a lot of confusion for a great many people.

The new Prestige R13 I recently bought is the finest clarinet of many I've ever played, although it needed some adjustments such as spring tension. To call them "crap" is irresponsible crap.

I only said SOME were crap, Buffets clarinets are amazing and I wouldn't play on anything else, but I have come across a few dud RC Prestiges, not many though.

Lisa Canning sells clarinets through my shop. She picks them out at the warehouse when they come in from France. She has trouble find enough to meet her standards.

"It seriously caused a lot of confusion for a great many people."

Not for people who took the trouble to learn how to use it.
