 Sowerby Clarinet Sonata
Author: ruben

Dear Readers,
Does anyone know anything about, or has anybody ever played a clarinet sonata by a certain Mr. Sowerby? I understand he was an organist in Chicago. I would also like to know whether this piece is published or available. Many thanks. Playing the clarinet makes us curious; we haven't an infinite number of works to fall back on like violinists or pianists.

I thought I might have read through this piece at some time but I don't find it in my sheet music. The work is published by the Sowerby Foundation and I found it in the online catalogs of SheetMusic Plus, Luyben's and Music 44 for around $20 plus shipping.

I have performed Sowerby's Concert Overture for orchestra a couple of times. That piece is in the idiom of early-mid 20th century tonal Americana.

Best regards,
jnk
