 Pomarico Artista mouthpiece
Author: TomA 2017

I was just about to order a replacement Pomarico Ruby crystal (long story...) and noticed they have a new crystal mouthpiece design, announced with some fanfare on their website.

Called the Artista, it comes in two versions (specs not given), called "vintage" and "soul". They emphasize the "marvelous" pianissimo possible with them but don't give much real information.

Does anyone on the board have any experience with these?

Thanks,
Tom

I believe I tried them at the Frankfurt Musikmesse. I tried quite a few Pomerico mouthpieces that day, but I can't say I have any experience with Pomerico or crystal mouthpieces, so I don't really have a good basis of comparison.

But, I found these pieces quite nice, free blowing, fairly easy to play and articulate, with a decently round sound. Keep in mind that at the musikmesse, I can't claim to have been able to hear anything from myself, so I was mainly going by feel.

They claim to have a secret facing that they don't want to give out to the public. . .They basically wouldn't tell me any details about the mouthpieces except that one was a little more open than the other. I found that part of the experience pretty weird, and I always feel uncomfortable buying a mouthpiece that I don't know much about, as finding a second one, or replacing it if it breaks becomes more difficult imo.

Could be worth a try though

Thanks, Sacha.

I also tried out a bunch of Pomaricos at the Musikmesse, but I don't remember this particular style. Maybe I did try it and didn't like it and reverted to the Ruby, which works for me.
