Your repair person should have something suitable. Else, a good hardware store may carry a headless (and preferrably nylon) screw that fits.

What make is the clarinet anyway?

While you're looking for a screw, sand down a toothpick until it fits through the screw hole with just a wee bit of resistance. Trim the pointy end, adjust as needed, then trim the protruding outer end (but not so close that you cannot unscrew it with tweezers/pliers). Secure with a drop of nail varnish.

That depends on the make of your clarinet. Not all have the same type of adjustment screw.

It will be referred to as either an Ab key adjusting screw or a G# key adjusting screw. You didn't mention which exact model Selmer you have but I suspect they probably all use the same size screw. You can buy them from Votaw Tool for $1.44 http://www.votawtool.com/zcom.asp?pg=products&grp=927.

Please note the one linked here is for the Selmer USA 1400B model. You should probably call and confirm that it will work for your specific model before ordering one. Alternatively you can just go to any music shop that does repairs on woodwinds and they can set you up with the right part.

One of the clarinets wore the screw and/or the key arm it contacts to the point it could not be adjusted properly. I fitted a small plastic shim which I glued in with contact cement instead. It's been working fine. That might be a good solution, at least temporarily

It should be adjusted so that the point of the screw almost touches its contact point on the A key, but not quite. There should be a tiny bit of room, or else the A flat pat will not seat fully and the horn will not play. Well, other than A, A flat, and B flat . . .

If there is too much room, the excess slack will be felt when the A key is depressed. The slack is annoying and can make for some slightly sloppy intervals, but better to err on that side than the other.

Outside the musical world this type of screw is known as a grub screw (headless and with slots or allan key holes to turn it). To find them you have to google Model Makers supplies for a pretty impressive range of small screws. Still leaves the problem of knowing the correct diameter and thread form.
