 Clarinet-viola-piano trio
Author: alyssamarie43

I'm in a trio with a viola and piano, we've played Mozart's Kegelstatt trio and we're looking for more pieces to play. Any recommendations?

Ah, I love the Kegelstatt ---

I think you will enjoy - -

The Eight Pieces by Max Bruch, Opus 83
Marchenerzahlungen by Robert Schumann, Opus 132

Hope this helps, Gene

Rebecca Clarke wrote a great piece for Viola and Clarinet (but no Piano): Pastorale.

Schumann Fairy Tales?

The op. 132, naturally, not the 113 that's for viola and piano.

Brahms wrote two songs for voice, viola, and piano; the vocal line can be adapted for clarinet easily enough. The second one, "Cradle song of the Virgin", would be a natural for this time of year (as I write this).

Not sure what your level is, but Kurtag's Hommage a R. Schumann is an incredible piece! Hard for the violist though.

I've been looking for the sheet music of the Rebecca Clarke duo. Does anybody know where to find it? (I wrote to the Rebecca Clarke foundation but got no response)

It's published by Oxford University Press. I ordered it through Gary van Cott.

Please let me know what you think when you folks get into the Carke piece. It sits languishing on the table by my music stand...

I just performed the Clarke a month back (my 2nd or 3rd time doing it over the years), it's a great work and the audience loved it. I believe there is a recording of it by Kelly Burke, and on this CD there some more modern cl/vla/pno pieces if your group is interested in contemporary music.
