Long Glissando

Hi All,

I have been working on the Artie Shaw Concerto for a while now which is coming on. I am managing a fairly long gliss between clarion G and octave above (altissimo G) but not yet as long as Arties. I go for the clarion G, lip slurring and slide by covering holes LH 1 and RH 123 and Eb key and sliding to LH1. Should I be sliding to an intermediate note first to prolong the gliss? Many thanks in anticiplation ;-)

I simply finger ahead of the note I'm playing. Ex. while playing G5, I actually am fingering A5 or B5. When I reach C6, I am already fingering D6, etc etc etc. It's easy to slur all the way up to C7 using this method--at least, for me. Just takes a real sloppy embouchure with a lot of breath support. Lip slurs are not for sissies......lol

btw, I have played the Shaw Concerto over six times with various bands and have never missed the long slur. Just have fun with it and even add some licks of your own after the slur is completed. After all, it's jazz.......
