Quick reply please! Ruddle Carte Simple/Albert

At a local antiques center they have a gorgeous Ruddle Carte simple /Albert clarinet, it is in excellent condition and the instrument and case look almost new, it has a Ruddle Carte wooden mouthpiece made out of the same wood as the instrument, it looks like Rosewood, amazingly the mouthpiece has the same serial number as the instrument, on another stall was modern Boehm system so I went over and borrowed a reed and the mouthpiece, I put the reed on and played it, it sounded a little thin, right I thought I will try the modern mouthpiece, no luck, it much too big, of course the other question, is LP or HP, I grabbed the Boehm system and compared tuning, it sounded OK.

Its going for £75, my common sense says no my heart says yes, what do you think.

The HP vs LP question depends on your ability to hold the exact pitch whilst changing from one instrument to the other, the difference is actually quite small, less than quarter semitone.
safer bet is to take along a tuning fork or electronic tuner.

Only you can make head vs heart ! depends also on your financial state.

If I really wanted it I would buy it - but try a bit of haggle first.

I'd offer £50 and go from there but make sure you have an upper limit. The likelihood is the antique shop owner doesn't have a clue on price and of course they will want to try and make a profit. If it were me I'd be really cheeky and offer £100 for both :-)

LP is 440Hz while HP is 452Hz, so there's definitely a noticeable difference between the two pitches.

I think you can do better than the £75 it's being offered for, considering it most likely needs a complete rebuild and simple systems aren't exactly sought after unless you're an enthusiast and play in a Victorian/Edwardian era period band or orchestra.

I'd offer fifty for it. RC made some beautiful horns even if you can't play them except by yourself these days..
