Albert Clarinet in Cocus wood etc

Hi,

I have just gone back to playing my Albert system clarinet made by E.J Albert, it is made of Cocus wood, I was told this by an old instrument repairer years ago, as far as tone, projection and focus go it beats my Boehm's into a cocked hat, I am a New Orleans Jazz player and of course many of my heroes played Albert System, my Boehm's are a Selmer Centred Tone, a Selmer Sterling metal clarinet and a Leblanc Dynamic H, I also have Albert system A - Eb and C that get used for folk music, New Orleans parade band Gypsy Jazz, the 'C' is useful for that.

Does anybaody else out there CBB land use an Albert system on a regular basis?

I use a Conn "improved Albert" pretty regularly - three rings up, two down with a germanic looking side vent key, alternate A flat, four trill keys; also play a german-system horn believed to be a William (Wilhelm) Meinl....regularly

Boehms include B&H 926, Selmer 10....

Same story for me Baz.

For about 15 years now I have been using a 1918 Buffet + ROC 6* or JB5 + 3 & 1/2 Rico Royals.

I dropped the ROC and damaged the tip so......goodbye forever to it....I guess.

I then used the JB5. It worked just fine until about 3 months ago, when the Buffet/JB5 just refused to co-operate with my embouchure.

I mucked about in frustration and finished up having to take two horns to the job - the 13 key Buffet and an ancient 11 key Hawkes & Son ''simple system'' - where I switched and swapped MPs (including a new Meyer), reeds and barrels seemingly endlessly.

The good news is that the Hawkes + Meyer + Rico 3 works just fine.

The bad news is I don't quite know what to do with the Buffet?

I flirted with a 15 (or possibly 16) key German Oehler System for about 6 months prior to buying the Buffet, but sold it. It would play in tune OK, but bending notes and using vibrato, used to send it wildly out of tune. I swapped it at the store where I originally purchased it + another $200 and got the Buffet.
