 Is this Teflon pad?
Author: paker

I only see a white continuous membrane which appears to be Teflon. Where can I buy them? One of my old clarinets has this type on all except the trill keys and one of the 4 big keys, which have skin pads. I would like to replace the big skin pad with the same kind for consistency. No hit from google search.
Thanks.

They could be Gore-Tex pads which Buffet use - a set of them is pretty expensive. They're basically a skin pad with an outer PTFE membrane over a single layer of skin.

Some old Vitos had rubber pads fitted.

In all honesty you're probably better off with good quality leather pads such as CLG or Chanu.

Thanks for the explanation. It could be rubber. White rubber? As you said, it is a Vito. It doesn't appear to be Goretex, though I have not seen a Goretex pad before. I just know what Goretex looks/feels like. I use it at work. I will upload a photo later.

Looks like rubber but you can also feel them which we can't from a photo :)
Definitely doesn't look like Goretex.

Looks like a traditional skin pad impregnated with silicone.
Never seen such thing.

Those are the old solid rubber pads. I don't know anyone that stocks them if that's what you want to replace the skin pads with.

There are synthetic pads on the market (eg. Valentino and others) if you want to stick with synthetic, but they don't look like these old rubber pads.

I've seen a few of those around. They weren't very common and amazingly stuck quite well to tone holes when they got dirty..(and not in a good way). There are other synthetic alternatives today including Valentino and Omni Pads.

Not gore-Tex. I do love my Gore-Tex pads on my Bb and Bass clarinets.

Don't know who made them but I've only seen them on lower line clarinets. The most recent was on a plastic Bundy.
