 dating a Buffet clarinet

I am trying to find out a little more about an old Buffet i have. It is a Buffet Crampon wood clarinet. I have tried looking up the serial number and my best guess is it was made around 1936. The serial number is D1651. I'm not real sure on this as the "D" is throwing me off when i look up the #. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Scott

Scrub the serial number area with a damp toothbrush to get the crud out. You'll almost certainly find that the number is different.
