I agree with Mark. In the early 1980s, when I was working on my masters degree, I had a major assignment for a music lit. class (not a thesis) in which I wrote about Weber's clarinet music. My professor suggested devoting a section to various interpretations of the first concerto. Following Mark's approach, I listened first to Gervase de Peyer's recording, my favorite at the time. I also listened to recordings made by Benny Goodman, Jacques Lancelot, and James Campbell (and possibly others). It turned out to be quite an interesting project. If you follow the same approach with Spohr's concerto, I think you will also come up with a lot of great material for your thesis. Good luck!
