Well, I received my $29.00 Moennig Bros. clarinet the other day. Replaced a number of pads, will need cork replaced on the tenons as well, but the odd thing was the mouthpiece sent with it. Ch. Chedeville (Paris) and a MO or Medium Open mouthpiece. MO was on the lower left of the scroll-work. I would imagine that this is a rather old mouthpiece. No chips at the end of the MP nor any major problems in where the reed lies. Only it has a lot of scratches from someone twisting around the ligature.
Right above the "Chedeville" is a square box with C/C in the box. Not sure what that was a reference to.

nice find - hope it plays well. I always check the mouthpieces in flea market clarinet cases. the clarinets are usually junk, but you never know what you'll find.

After I got the newly installed pad adjusted, and seated well, it does play, but there is an "off" key or tone hole. Wife could even pick it up. Plays ok, but not like my E.F. Durand which can play circles around it. And this is a wooden clarinet to boot. Tell you how old it is, it came with a spot in the case of a small round container of cork grease. This is not the same thing as the chapstick stuff, but just a small round tin.... which had long since dried up and mummified.
Barrel affair is an odd one. Regular mouthpieces fit really loose in it. Another wood barrel I have won't fit on it. Must have been a strange duck of an instrument. Germany. Perhaps it is made in barrel and mouthpiece area to different dimensional specs.

I believe German mouthpiece and barrel tenons are not the same size as French pattern tenons.

That's a nice find! It's the later, post war, chedeville though. I found one in a plastic vito clarinet case once. The clarinet may have met an unfortunate end versus a few bullets on a Texas ranch...
It's around a $250 mouthpiece, but should be refaced to get it playing its best. These mouthpieces are generally better than zinners\vandorens etc., but aren't anywhere near the older pre-war chedevilles.
Always nice to have these little surprises with old clarinets! Most of the time the clarinet turns out to be worth less than the mouthpiece!

The "C\C" is in reference to CHarles Chedeville, by the way. MO is medium open, which translates to really open (sometimes as much as 1.20mm).
