The American Chamber Music Players lists a number of chamber music camps, workshops and weekends throughout the world. I used to go to the Interlochen Adult Chamber Music Camp just about every year, but got tired of it. A more intense experience would have been better. Then some <undisclosed activites> told me I didn't belong there.

So it was with a jaundiced eye that I agreed with my wife and her friend Rosalie to sign up for the Wellesley Composers Forum and Chamber Music Center. This 2-week event has the composers at the top, and the professional musicans who perform submitted pieces in the middle also coach the chamber players at the bottom.

We submitted MP3's of audition pieces and were accepted. Deb and I were assigned together in the Poulenc: Sextuor and Fine: Partita. Deb got another piece by Koechlin and I got the Reinecke horn/clarinet/piano trio. For each piece there were three 2-hour coaching sessions and a performance one movement. We were placed with musical equals who were fun to play with. The coaching was excellent. Wellesley's large, treed campus was lovely. Our experience was all-in-all pretty good.

So, does anyone know of camps in New Mexico that might offer a similar experience? We will be there in July attending the Santa Fe Opera.

Not sure of the dates, but you might look into Kammermusik in Santa Fe.

Here is their site: http://www.kammermusikworkshops.org

Dates 7/14/13 - 7/20/13 are not bad. Thanks!

Just a plug for ACMP "matchmaking."

I think that most of us could benefit from a membership. I've had some of my best playing buddies emerge from the ACMP listings.

I'm always saddened when I can't find some playing opportunities in a town I'm visiting. Example: stuck in Las Vegas where only a dozen or so players are in the directory.

Modest fee to join.
List your instruments and grade your playing ability.
Willing to organize a group?
Have spare instruments to share with visitors?
