I bought a box of assorted clarinet mouthpieces today including a Zinner. It's ringed for a string ligature and the table and the area around the tip rail seem to be something like stainless steel. The rest of the piece is molded plastic and it is marked with a 3 next to the table just above the cork. It doesn't appear in the current Zinner catalogue. Does anybody know what I have here? It plays quite well.
Thanks.

I'm not sure on the Zinner aspect but Conn used to make mpcs like you describe (maybe 30s or 40s) with a stainless steel section of the tip rail, side rails and table. There were very tiny pins that kept it in place.

I know of a guy who likes to experiment with mps--German mps in particular. Depending on who you bought from, this might be one of his hybrid experiments--it's the sort of thing that reminds me of his work.

Many thanks for the suggestions. This particular example came from the junk-box collection of a repairer who recently retired in Melbourne, Australia. I have no idea how it came to be there.
