That is very sad news. I loved his work on period clarinets, I loved his extremely expressive recording of the Finzi concerto (one of my all-time favorite clarinet recordings), and I loved his pioneering work in modern music.
Mr Hacker, you are an inspiration. Rest in Peace.

A great player and musician who ploughed his own furrow and refused to be confined by so called national or stylistic "norms".
A sad loss to the clarinet and general music worlds.

This is such sad news. I have fond memories of a 4-day master class in Bamberg, Germany with him. I refer to the subject matter Alan discussed regularly in my teaching and performance. He was a truly brilliant musician-scholar, and will be greatly missed.
