I am in the market for an A clarinet. Thus is my first time, I was just acceptepted into my local youth orchestra. I know the big brand companies sell A clarinet like Buffet, Leblanc, Selmer, and Yamaha. But I was wondering if there were any other brands that were out there that are less expensive, but are still durable. Or if you have any experience with the big name brands.
Thank you for any information.

Keep a lookout for used pro level A clarinets - they're less expensive and equally as durable as new ones (even if in need of some work).
This'll give you an idea of how much they cost, though the equivalent prices may be less in the US: http://www.howarth.uk.com/wo/manuals/2hclarinets.htm

Ridenour's Lyrique A clarinet may be a good choice for the OP. Hard rubber body. Tom sell them for about $1100 new.

Calm down Jack - they are in GB£ so check what the exchange rates are for a much better idea. Sorry to disappoint if you thought they were in US$.
They're pretty much what the average used prices are through a UK retailer and commission is charged to the sellers they're sold on behalf of, so you may find similar pro model A clarinets lower on eBay or from private sellers.

I just got one off of the auction site for $500. An old pro Buffet from ~1930 with a wrap around octave key.

$500, not cheap for such an old Buffet. Hope that it is worth the risk.

If you're on a budget you can also look for a Buffet E11 in A. They aren't nearly as expensive as a professional horn (I think I've even seen some cheaper new than a new Bb.) Also as stated above contact Tom Ridenour, his clarinets have a very good reputation.
I would avoid getting any clarinet that is too old. My "A" (which I don't have to use luckily) is a Cabart that I got off the famous auction site. I managed to get it for only $50, but although it was recently overhauled, I feel that the instrument has warped so much that the intonation would be unacceptable for an ensemble.
Just keep a look out for deals and have fun!

I'd recommend the Rindenour over the e-11 A any day.
A used Yamaha SEV or Ycl-650 are also an excellent value.

They do and you can buy it new over seas. If they had it easily available here in the us market it would probably under cut their custom line A's. I think the 650 is amazing. More than half the price of the standard r13a and is more than twice as good.

Yamaha 650 is an excellent comparison to the E13 A, and is cheaper, and as people say, I also think a better A clarinet. We have a few in stock as they are a very popular instrument.

I had good luck with a vintage Penzel-Mueller in A....and it was quite affordable. Good tone and intonation, although I did have to get used to a slightly different feel from my R-13. Still, I play A so infrequently at the moment, it met my needs.
There's a nice Pruefer A currently listed by the Vintage Clarinet Doctor (no affiliation) at the following link that looks great for a reasonable price: http://www.thevintageclarinetdoctor.com/vintage-g-pruefer-boehm-system-in-a.html
