 LA Phil Co-Principal Clarinet

"After a private audition for a committee of Los Angeles Philharmonic musicians, Ricardo Morales has been qualified for the position of Co-Principal Clarinet and will perform as Guest Principal for this coming week's concerts."

Ricardo Morales - the man on a roll for winning clarinet positions and not being able to accept the position!

Thanks for the news!
Don't you think the picture that you attached is pretty offensive?

Morales is amazing and I do like the idea that he will be playing with the orchestra where I'm from, but part of me wishes he would choose an orchestra and stay faithful to it. I mean, there are SO MANY incredible, talented players who could be filling these orchestra spots. I would also think it would be frustrating for the Philly orchestra to have a member that seems to take gigs with other major orchestras so freely.

Addition: If this all turns out to be an April Fools joke, then it worked on me and congrats to the person who thought it up haha. Well done.

I heard he won the challenge over Sarah Musgrave and is now first chair at Charlottesville High School.

Not sure what the benefits package is, but that's a busy program he's adding to Philly.

First, I do hope that this is an April Fool's prank. Otherwise, despite his huge talent, Morales is running the risk of seeming a bit of a "floozy"...

Second, maybe it's time to take a hard look at symphonies in general -- an uber-talented guy like Morales who is at the top of his game can play wherever he wants, apparently. Why confine him to just one orchestra? Let him gig all over the place (of course, that may eliminate additional rare principal clarinet jobs....or perhaps create some asst. principal jobs?)

Personally, I would vet the source before I posted this on a blog as "breaking news" ... This is a bulletin with multiple people posting and correcting (and pointing out the date!), a blog is something that people might actually take seriously, and a screw-up by not vetting sources might damage the credibility of a blog as a news source.

Mr. Charette, the information was also posted by the Clarinet Jobs Facebook page, run by James Zimmerman, a source which has been incredibly reliable in the past for giving us the latest news when it comes to auditions, openings, and winners. If it turns out to be an April fools joke, then I will post a retraction and will have done no harm other than furthering a joke in the spirit of this "holiday."

I don't feel that this is an issue of credibility, and if it is, my blog is in no more danger than Clarinet Jobs (which has a much larger following than me). I am dedicated to providing accurate information to my readers as well as information that is as current as possible. The tradeoff comes as a rare instance of misinformation, but it will always be corrected if new information comes to light.

IT'S APRIL FOOLS for a fact.

There eventually will be an audition, but not right now, Ricardo has nothing to do with it, and I might take it.........

Or not

The co-principal was Mr. Levee, a wonderful musician. He died recently and was honored at a concert by the LAPO.
