 Harold Wright Lectures

They have to exist. They're out there somewhere: videos and audio recordings of Harold Wright giving lectures and master classes. The question is, who has them and/or knows where to find them?

(while you're at it, any Opperman recordings, too?)

There are plenty of recordings of Harold Wright in performance, particularly from Boston Records http://www.bostonrecords.com/servlet/the-Clarinet/Categories. There are also scores with extensive markings by HR in the Harold Wright Legacy Series. Go to http://www.vcisinc.com/search.htm and enter +Wright +Legacy.

I don't know of any tapes of Wright lectures or master classes. Like you, I'd like to learn about any.

As far as I know, Kalmen Opperman made no commercial recordings. However, his memorial site http://www.kalmenopperman.com/ has links to several clips of his playing http://www.kalmenopperman.com/music__audio.

Kal told me that the sound tracks for Looney Tunes and Merry Melodies cartoons were recorded in NYC. Al Gallodoro was the first call, and Kal was the second. If you hear a Warner Brothers cartoon with 2 clarinets, the #2 is Kal, or perhaps he was #1 when Gallodoro was unavailable. I'd be surprised if there were any Wright masterclasses in existence.

I always had the impression that teaching was not his favorite activity.

So sad... recordings of Wright (or Opperman) giving a master class could've been terrific.

:-(
