Hi,

About a year ago I bought my current clarinets, and 4 months ago both were overhauled. Before the overhaul they had some problems with resistance do to the leak of air, some pads were in a bad condition, etc. Now after the overhaul are worst than before. Some keys on my B-flat are getting stuck, and my A doesn't want to make a sound in the lower clarion register. Both of the upper bodies aren't sealing well. I went yesterday back to my repairman and he worked on both of my clarinets, but as soon as today they're back to the same condition.

I am a little confused because they sound better than before, but do to the mechanical problems I'm working twice as hard as before. I don't know if I should keep my clarinets (which I like even with those problems) or should I sell them and buy another clarinets.

Incompetent technician.

Check your A key. There should be a little play before it opens the Ab key, so back off on the screw on the Ab key a bit. If the screw is "in" too far, it might not be letting the Ab key close completely.

What you're describing is not exactly what I might expect from just this problem, but it's close, and worth a try to start.

I agree that the repair was not done competently. It is not only the job of the technician to make sure there is a seal, he/she is also obligated to make the mechanics work FOR you, becoming 'invisible' under your fingers.

You are not in a good place as far as compensation because I for one would never go back to this person. Find someone who knows what he's doing and invest in a GOOD repair.

New horns are often not set up quite right either, so knowing the place to go for good repair is MOST IMPORTANT of the two options.
