Would someone be good enough to compare the playing characteristics of Vandoren V-12's vs. Blackmaster. I play a Lomax mouthpiece with a Vandoren 4. Thanks in advance!

This is a pretty good chart that includes both the German Whitemasters and the Austrian Blackmasters. It's a pretty accurate chart too.

Compared to regular Vandorens, the V12 come across much stiffer for the same strength (in my opinion). The Black Masters are slightly thinner (left to right that is) and in my opinion are NOT a good match for standard French mouthpieces though many MANY people use them this way.
I would put in a plug for the 56 Lepic which are only just slightly more resistant initially than a blue box reed but they are VERY well suited for long facing mouthpieces and break in great (for me).
