Call him, great guy. He has some very good mouthpieces. He can also put on whatever facing you wish.

I played one of Tom's mouthpieces made from a Riffault blank for many years. They are an excellent, and quite reasonable, option, consistent and well made.

I've been playing Tom's RZ MT-36 (med. close) mouthpiece for over a year and it is terrific. Tuning is great as well as response. I use #4 reeds and balance them with Tom's ATG reed finishing system, which I also highly recommend.

And yes he is a nice guy.

I used his Zinner based mouthpiece for years. Freeblowing with a 3.5 reed, played every style I needed to play well. I'd still be using it if I didn't decide to go with legere reeds. His mouthpieces haven't worked for me with legere reeds.

I also have and played for a little bit the Harold Wright mouthpiece. Sounds really good with a reed adjusted for it, but I'm sick and tired of adjusting reeds (hence the legere reeds).

He makes good mouthpieces.

When I inquired about a high-end mouthpiece for jazz and big band performance, Mr. Ridenour was kind enough to indicate that he did not have a model that he thought would work for me. Not only is Tom a nice guy, he won't try to sell you something that probably won't work.

I do have a Ridenour Encore mouthpiece and it is very nice--an excellent introductory/intermediate mouthpiece for classical playing.

I bought one from him many years ago when he was in our town to meet with Eddie Daniels. It initially played very nicely, but when used "on the job", it proved to be inflexible dynamically--"stuffy". I never really used it after that opting for my much older Ithica Bay "custom" and more recently, the Chicago Kaspar #14 which was the model for the Bay.
