Help Me Identify my Noblet Paris Clarinet...
Author: hasamoder

Hi I have a black wooden Clarinet made by Noblet Paris,

I would like to Identify a few things,

Firstly is it Vintage?

Secondly, When was it made?

Thirdly, How much is it? (Its in Good Condition and Serviced Often)

Fourthly, Does the case add any Value?

To help answer these questions here is some details, It has a logo with Artist written on top, and Noblet Paris written in a diamond. On the back it has the Number 20403 written on it. On another piece it has a logo with B & H London. If you need any more details please ask...

Thank You & Any help would be greatly Appreciated!

Best Regards - Hasamoder

try www.clarinetperfection.com.

Looks like you have a partial Noblet 45 from early 1960s. Which part is B&H? Since you have a hybrid it isn't worth much at all.

I doubt its a hybrid, I've had it for a fairly long time and all the pieces seem original I've uploaded photos to further help. Thanks for your help, I plan on selling it soon and all the information possible is for the better...

It is a bit of the hybrid as the barrel is not original. You have a B&H barrel mixed in and the original barrel would have had a Noblet logo on it.

It is a Noblet 45 Artist and was probably made in the early 1960's based on the serial number. This was the top model of the Noblet line and is considered to be an upper-intermediate level instrument. If it were 100% original and in good playable condition it might be worth ~$300USD. Recently several people have been trying to sell them for $400+ on ebay and there have been no takers so I suspect my estimate of ~$300 is reasonably valid. The non-original barrel will decrease this somewhat but not by a whole lot.

I've looked at the pictures you submitted, and your Noblet is very much like mine, except for the barrel. The original is "leaner", not so wide in the middle.

Now for the age of the clarinet. The maker does not offer production years for instruments made before 1964, but my clarinet was bought new in 1952. My father gave it to me when I was 12, and I had just started in the school band. I have had it since, and I still use it daily. The number is 27001, and it is made probably in 1951 or 1952. - The price my dad paid for it was approximately $3000 in the present value of the dollar.

I have a newer and "better" clarinet, which I bought a few years back, but I keep coming back to the old one, mostly because it plays so easily, and the tone is clear and centered. With the right mouthpiece and reed, the instrument is my favourite.
